Why is Tubbo Called Tubbo?

Tubbo is called Tubbo as it is inspired by his nickname, Toby. Let’s have a look at the history of his names, and how Tubbo came about to be his permanent one.

Here’s why is Tubbo called Tubbo:

  1. Tubbo first started his career on YouTube with the name “Blue Turtle”.
  2. On Twitch, he started with the name “SuperManPower500” after which he went back to being “Blue Turtle”.
  3. He used that for a while then changed it to “Spectrum XP
  4. Then he changed it to “Orphictubbo” because it is similar to his nickname Toby.
  5. After a while he came to the realization that the name is a bit too long, so he decided to shorten it by changing it to what is now the iconic “Tubbo”.

Tubbo has been creating content for about 4 years now, in which he rose to massive popularity in the last 2 years. His journey from averaging 0-2 viewers per stream to now 200,000 viewers per stream is nothing short of extraordinary.

Tubbo’s grit and determination in his initial days, followed by his discovery by Tommyinnit, his invitation to Dream SMP and his charismatic and innocent personality, all have contributed to his popularity and growth.

1. Tubbo’s initial days and discovery by Tommyinnit

For a couple of years after quitting YouTube and starting Twitch in 2018 and 2019, he did not gain much popularity. In fact, like most Twitch streamers, he would average 0-2 viewers in the first few months. This changed when his channel was raided by Tommyinnit. Tommy was also still relatively small at that time but had more viewers than Tubbo. He raided Tubbo with 29 viewers and that was the most viewers Tubbo had ever gotten on a live stream. This was the start of a very strong friendship between Tubbo and Tommy, who he still thanks for his success.

2. Invitation to Dream SMP

The massive growth that Tubbo got was in 2020 when he was invited to the DreamSMP by Dream himself because Tubbo was friends with Tommy. The day he started streaming after joining the SMP, he got 1000 viewers and this was just the beginning.

3. Tubbo’s personality

Tubbo has a very charismatic and charming personality, coupled with his innocent and childish way of acting and talking. This makes him the perfect influencer for a young audience. Not just that but the way he presents himself on the stream is very enjoyable to watch.

4. Friendship with Tommyinnit and Ranboo – the Benchtrio

Tubbo usually plays with his friends and fellow streamers and YouTubers, Tommyinnit and Ranboo who together are considered “Benchtrio” by the fans and are greatly loved by all of their audiences. Their trio also ends up creating a sort of loop in which the viewers watch videos of all 3 of them to observe the different points of view of a video, which brings more viewers to all of their channels.

Ever since joining the Dream SMP, Tubbo has broken his viewership records almost every week thanks to the massive influx of audience that was coming from the Dream SMP server. Add that to the already charismatic and charming Tubbo and you get over 200 THOUSAND viewers on a single stream.

Is Tubbo a Goat?

Tubbo is not really a goat in real life or in Minecraft. Even in Minecraft, he is a human with light skin, blond hair, long bangs, and light blue eyes.

This question is Tubbo a goat though, is in reference to some of his fan art featuring horns. This came to life due to Jschlatt’s avatar in Minecraft from before, Rammy from the Animal Orbs game, who was a ram, or a male sheep. Even though Schlatt ditched the avatar after becoming popular to avoid copyright issues, the horn features remained. During the Manberg storyline of the SMP, popular headcanons were adopted by the characters. This included the well-known Dadschlatt AU, which resulted in Tubbo’s SMP character being depicted with these features as well.

Last year a popular Twitch streamer, CaptainPuffy said that “Tubbo has little horns as well”, and is like a goat (source). This was in reference to his Minecraft skins and not his actual physical appearance. This inside joke became quite popular in Tubbo’s community, resulting in confusion among many of his new fan base community members.

Tubbo Minecraft Journey

Tubbo Minecraft Journey: The Beginning

Tubbo started his Minecraft journey back in 2017 from his YouTube channel, BlueTurtle where he used to play Minecraft bed wars and Minecraft survival videos. He continued doing so even after switching over to Twitch.

After his Twitch got raided by Tommyinnit, he and Tommy became really good friends. He often played Minecraft with him and till date, they still do.

Tubbo Minecraft Journey: SKY SMP

After having streamed regularly on his Twitch and gaining a small and loyal audience, he got invited to SKY SMP hosted by another fellow Minecraft YouTuber, SKY GAMING who currently has 10K subscribers.

This was a very key moment in his journey as the first time he streamed after joining the SKY SMP server he broker 1000 viewers and started gaining recognition in the Minecraft YouTube community.

He continued streaming on the server for many months to come and even started streaming with multiple Minecraft streamers who were on the server. This gave Tubbo the stable viewership that he needed.

Tubbo Minecraft Journey: DREAM SMP

Tubbo after having played in the SKY SMP for quite some time, got a message from Dream on Discord, asking if he wanted to join the Dream SMP server. This was a monumental step in his journey which he didn’t even know at that time. Dream invited Tubbo to his server because he was friends with Tommyinnit who had also gotten really popular around the same time.

Tubbo Dream SMP: Manburg Elections

Unfortunately he lost the election to Schlatt. He had to watch his friends get exiled. Tubbo managed to escape, but not for long since he soon got dragged back by Schlatt and was forced to become his right-hand man. Tubbo later gave a speech expressing his sorrow after losing his friends.

He later dethroned Schlatt and became President.

Tubbo Dream SMP: New L’mamburg

After the events of the previous arc, Tubbo had to make a tough decision of exiling Tommyinnit, even though he did not want to. For this decision, he was immediately made a villain and called a “Schlatt”.

There are many more such adventures of Tubbo which I would recommend you to watch on his Twitch streams.

How much Money does Tubbo Make?

Let’s take a look at how much money Tubbo makes from both his YouTube and Twitch.

How much money does Tubbo make from Twitch?

Tubbo earns about $30,000 per month from Twitch as per his latest stats.

Subs: According to TwitchTracker, Tubbo has around 4,669 subscribers. Twitch’s base subscription fee is $4.99 per month. If we assume that all of them have the basic subscription, and he likely has a 50/50 split with Twitch, he would make at least 44,400 x 50/100 x 4.99 = $11,649

Ads: On average, Tubbo streams for about 70 hours a month, with an average viewership of around 7,000 people. If he runs an ad twice an hour at a $10 CPM per 1000 views, his monthly ad revenue will be 70 x 7000/1000 x 10 x 2= $9,800

Donations: Finding this figure is a bit tricky and here we have to make some assumptions. If we apply the 1% rule, which means that only 1% of your audience or average viewers actually support you financially, and we assume all of them pay a base donation of $5, then his monthly donation amount is 7000 x .01 x 5 x 22 (active days) = $7,700

So in total, he earns approximately $30,000 per month from Twitch through ads, donations, and subs.

According to Twitch data leak in 2021, Tubbo made over $1,000,000 from August 2019 to October 2021 on Twitch from his subs and ads alone.

How much money does Tubbo make from YouTube?

His monthly earnings from his YouTube channels are projected to be at least $23,600 from ads alone.

Ads: Tubbo makes the majority of his money on YouTube through Adsense. YouTube AdSense pays approximately $2 CPM per 1000 views to gamers. So last 30 days, he would have received an estimate below:

  • On his main YouTube channel, Tubbo, he has a monthly average of 1.3 Million views, so he earns approximately 1.3 Million/1000 = 1300 x 2 = $2600
  • On his second channel, TubboLIVE, he has a monthly average of 500,000 views, so he earns approximately 500,000/1000 = 500 x 2 = $1,000
  • On his third channel, The Let’s Play Channel, he has a monthly average of 9000 views, so he earns approximately 9000/1000 = 9 x 2= $18

In total, he earns at least $3,618 per month from YouTube, from ads alone.
